Ned Henry, DVM

I grew up in Norfolk, Va and knew from an early age that I either wanted to work with animals or be a doctor like my Dad. Luckily I didn’t have to make a choice.
I graduated from the University of Virginia in 1992 and earned my DVM at LSU School of Veterinary Medicine in 1998.

The field of veterinary medicine has changed and advanced so rapidly in recent years in terms of…everything. My professional goal is to share knowledge, offer expertise, provide options, and blend care with technology to help owners make the best decisions for their pets.

I enjoy sailing, board sports, biking and playing guitar. I’ve recorded a few albums and singles (original material) out there on Spotify and Apple Music.

Q&A

Mountains or ocean?

Both! As long as I’m outside, I’m good. Ideally somewhere beautiful and remote. If I’m at the beach I need waves, a surfboard and palm trees. If I’m in the mountains I need a bike – a 29+ or fat bike will do. And obviously a dog and a guitar – no matter where I am!

What are you happiest doing, when you’re not working?

The one thing that I can NEVER be without is a stringed instrument of some sort. Guitars, mandolins, mandoblasters, ukuleles, Shuitars and Amicuses are all perfect. The ideal number of instruments to have is (n+1). Same with bikes!

What would be your personal motto?

Pura Vida! That sums it up for me.

What was the best concert you ever attended?

Front row at Jimmy Buffett with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band at a Preservation Hall Midnight Preserves show. And all of the Midnight Preserves shows at Pres Hall. Also the other 53 (and counting) Buffett shows I’ve been to.

What is your favorite family tradition?

Getting together with family and friends at the beach cottage my grandmother built at Sandbridge, VA in 1976. That is still a magical place for me and if my spirit animal were a place, Sandbridge would be it.
