Marisa Muniak, BVM&S

I was born and raised in the Northwestern Lower Peninsula of Michigan. I moved to New Orleans to attend Tulane University and earned a degree in Cell and Molecular Biology in 2011. Continuing to use education as an excuse to travel, I moved to Scotland to attend The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies at the University of Edinburgh and graduated in 2016.
Crescent City Vet granted me my first job in the veterinary industry during my undergraduate studies. I was in the yard playing with all the pups as a kennel tech and worked my way up to treatment and eventually overnight tech before pursuing graduate studies. For the past six years I have been working at a non-profit clinic where my emphasis was on client education and preventative care. I am very excited to return to the CCV family full time and have the resources of a full service general practice to provide the best care for my patients and their families.
In my time off I enjoy listening to live local music, cheering on my favorite sports teams, and crocheting. My husband and I have three rescues – an Aussie mix named Finnegan, a Beagle mix named Taysom, and a grey tabby named C.K. Dexter Haven.

Q&A

Mardi Gras or Jazz Fest?

My husband and I both ride in Tucks. I have a grand time decorating plungers and even crocheting some custom throws – it is an all year project.

What brought you to NOLA?

My first visit to NOLA was in high school. My older brother was presenting a poster at a conference as an undergraduate lab assistant and my parents used the opportunity for a family trip. To be honest, prior to that trip I do not think that I had ever heard of the city before. It was between Mardi Gras and St Patrick’s Day just before Katrina – I instantly fell in love. I remember being stunned by a palm tree at the airport and continued to be in awe of the jazz music, the architecture, and the culture of the city. A few years later when I was looking into college there were three options for my choice of undergraduate degree – two schools in the snow or Tulane. No contest. I moved into my dorm in August 2007 and have considered NOLA home ever since.

I knew I wanted to become a vet..

I found a kitten with respiratory infection in my backyard the summer before sixth grade. Prior to this I did not know the world of Veterinary Medicine existed. I became fascinated while nursing him back to health and started to shadow the same small town vet every opportunity I had during career days. I continued to do so even during summer holidays during my veterinary studies.
